Shop Opened and Going Well!!!

As you walk through the door that I share with Kristi that has the beauty shop, this is what you see. My latest large project completed the night before my opening and actually finished it the next day before 11am....thought it turned out kinda cool!!!

The wood under the paint is a birdseye maple....someday, I may work on getting the rest of the paint off. This once held a mirror, but now, a glorious variety of men's ties!

Crazy beautiful, I would say!!! This reminds me of life at times, going in all sorts of directions, weaving in and out of all the craziness and yet, everything has a purpose and I hold on to that. Here, it ends up holding wonderful things and shows off the life and history behind the ties....many of these belonging to a dear man in our church. Richard and Ida shared 60 years of marriage together and I tribute this piece to him and I just don't know if anyone is required to wear ties in heaven! I do hope there is no pantyhose wearing in heaven..... :) deb

It is all about venturing out onto the water, knowing you can walk on it with the Lord's help....yes, fulfilling a dream is exciting and scary at the same time. As Peter walked on the water, I can't imagine him not be exciting with the first step, but also scared to death. Remember, he was doing fine while he kept his eyes on Jesus but once he took them off and looked at everything else going on around him and the human thinking of "this is really impossible", he started sinking. I am so excited and scared at the same time with this new business adventure and am in prayer all the time to just keep my eyes on Jesus and so appreciate the love and encouragement of friends and family.....

......or just stand there and admire the door and do nothing. It is scary! Well, I have turned the knob, walked through the door and am plunging into this new adventure of being a business owner. I wish this was the door to my new shop but it isn't. It is one of the many fabulous doors of one of my bosses....I have several very part-time jobs! Excited, scared and asking for prayers!!!

This is Petunia who lives in a town called Burbank, BUT, it is in South Dakota! Never knew of this town until my son Josh moved down to Vermillion, South Dakota! Took a quick trip to meet his girlfriend Amy and see where he lives and the places he works. At this little farm where he helps out, one of the animals is this pot belly pig. We got acquainted rather easily, I'd say!!!

Do not have pictures to post of the shop! Slowly getting things moved over there. Looking forward to some "muscle" to help with the big stuff! I have had such good feedback from everyone that I have talked to about doing this....very encouraging for me as this is very scary! I will be 49 in November and finally, I feel as though I am realizing a dream....

I've learned a long this road of life, especially lately, to start facing my fears. Taking time to examine what my fears are (ugh, as there are so many), God has mercifully walked me through and still showing me slowly what I need to look at in my life, what to face, what to cry over and what to wipe away, blow my nose and get on with it! Have faith. Extend grace and know that all my strength has to come from Him.....everyone else will fail us at some point in our lives, that is just the way it is (my fairy-tale bubble got "bursted" a long time ago - I wrote "bursted" on purpose, a childhood thing).

Anyway, still have a lot to learn....journey doesn't end, the last chapter not read so I will move forward even when I don't feel like I can. God is my strength, my source. My dad told me once, "Deb, you hold on to faith too much (like it was a crutch). Didn't realize until later, "Wow, that was a real compliment, spiritually speaking!" Since then, my faith can waver like a roller-coaster ride....not good. But God is ever so loving, patient and keeps extending this lady so much grace!!! I need to work on doing the same for others, don't we all.....

Dreams.....yes, they can come true! My husband and I spent an anniversary at a Bed 'n Breakfast north of where we live. It was awhile ago but I will never forget how the couple shared how they ended up doing this business. The lady had turned 50 and thought it was time to "go for it!" so to speak.....do something she has always wanted to do. She and her husband built this beautiful home where they live in the basement and use the main floor and 2nd floor for their business. They use the main kitchen for their needs, too. It was a wonderful time sharing with them and I haven't forgotten their story. I, too, have wanted to do something for a very long time and next year, in 2012, I will be turning the big 5-0! Just doesn't seem possible! Three of my children are out on their own and I have a 14 year old still around to enjoy! Well, things are falling into place to start a business on our Main Street in the town I live in. I am going to call it, Deb's A to E which will represent: antiques, books & baubles, cards and craft creations, delights & devotionals and ebay! Selling for others on ebay will support my business. I will have all my craft supplies there at the store so others can peruse through and see if there is anything they can use from all my old watch parts, old keys, jewelry pieces, etc....endless eye candy! And my passion....sharing my love of books and music....especially encouraging and spiritual books to help people on their own roads in life. It will be like having a craft store with great atmosphere! I will have a comfortable fun sitting area where one can have coffee or tea and maybe a sweet treat now and then! I do not plan to compete with our marvelous coffee shop up the street with the fancy coffees, one will have to settle for Folgers or herbal tea! I will have my craft creations setting around along with antique pieces and such. I want it to be a fun place where people can come in and not feel pressured to purchase something all the time.....mainly, I hope it will be a ministry! My heart's longing to share the love of Christ through being available and listening.....possibly have my Bible study group meet there once in awhile, too! Anyway, I feel it is truly blessed by God as how everything seems to be coming together. The owner of the building will allow me the month of August to set up without charging that month's rent! How fabulous it that! I didn't even get to ask her outright before she said it first! So, for all you praying gals, I would appreciate your prayers on my behalf! I truly want this venture to be a BLESSING to our community more than anything else. I will still be working at my other jobs very part-time so all I am hoping for is atleast the rent to be covered each month which includes utilities and everything.....not out to make a million, but to be a blessing and know that I will be blessed, too......

Thought for the day....."...know that your will be blessed as you strive to first be a blessing to others." Amen to that.....deb

It has just been a lllooooonnnnnngggggg winter here. We should never be surprised as far as South Dakotans go with the weather. It is what 95% of the conversations are about with the farmers and well, the other 5% comes with great variety!!! Now, we will have to worry about flooding issues, hoping the farmers will be able to get out in the fields and that basements won't get filled with water! In the midst of all that, always remembering God shows Himself through all of this and we choose every day how to handle it, how to perceive it and how we will let it affect our day!!!

I have so enjoyed reading others' blogs and seeing what everyone has been up to with the shows, spaces at flea markets and when you all share inside your craft rooms and family. I have been inspired and encouraged through some difficult stuff lately, so want to say thanks for that.

Looks like a great movie is coming out called "Soul Surfer" based on Bethany Hamilton's true life experience with a shark. Do not know if the movie will touch on how much she loves the Lord as she states in personal interviews. I hope it does.

It has been sooo long since sharing anything here. Hard to believe it is February and it has been a cold one!!! Interesting how so much of the nation has been swept up in this cold! We have lots to be thankful for in just being warm! Created some things for the upcoming holiday. I call them my Handmade Vintage Valentines. The backdrop is the reflectors for the old Christmas lights. I was putting things away earlier this week and found these reflectors in my hand and the wheels just started spinning! It is so fun when that happens. So, I have been busy with these and a few other things that I will share later. Have went off-line at home so am figuring out how to download from one of those memory sticks to get pictures here. Always learning.

So hard to believe that we are into 2011. I remember like yesterday when we were concerned about how everything was going to be once we entered the year 2000! A lot has happened in the 11 years since and I wouldn't begin to even try to recap for you! Just didn't get our picture sent out for the Holidays so here we are minus Melody. Am giving you both as you can see either Joe looks like someone just gave him a wedgy or Isaac is being goofy. Josh is in the gray shirt, Jacob in the blue, Jenae with her fabulous hair is behind her dad. I in my flannel....forever in flannel and blue jeans!!! May the Lord richly bless you in Spirit and in Truth for 2011....

Plantes, Teacups, Vases......no, Pincushions!

One of my favorites.....this is a violin planter and I had so much fun and am so pleased at how it turned out to be turned into a pincushion. What do you think?

I call them "Keepsake Pincushions" as each one has a little locket that opens up.

To think that maybe, at some time, this beauty had DIRT in it!!!

Isn't the detail beautiful??!!

A cup of tea anyone?

This is a shell planter. The fabric is from a stretchy type shirt...the texture was so cool!

A neat little vase highlighted with gold. Again, the fabric was from a ladies' top....nice and stretchy with flakes of gold!

A silver sugar bowl....saved the lid for something else. The patina shows that this divine sugar bowl has some stories to tell. The handles have a character of their own! The fabric is blue velvet from a dress or blouse....

Almost saved this little coffee cup to put in my own cupboard. The fabric comes from scraps from who knows where as I have been saving over the long years. The doily just seemed so right for this one.....

This cup is from Czechoslovakia. There was a small chip on the rim so adhered this gold leaf pin to it and it added so much to this piece...really made it special.

This clog type shoe was made in Boys Town...says so on the bottom. The velvet fabric came from a jacket...it was so hard to make that first cut!

Another sugar bowl....I collected quite a few over the years. The fabric is from a child's dress. It is very hard to cut up clothing items but I know that I would never be able to afford this fabric by itself and where in the world would one find it? Again, a doily for the top. Someone worked awhile on this one....a beautiful rose flower....

A baby bootie with the same fabric from above. My oldest is 23 and I did use cloth diapers back then. I learned the hard way about not having so much cholorine in the bucket as it really eats away at the cotton fabric! This would be a great place to put the diaper pins....

Another great planter with SO much personality.....this looks like a "Daisy" to me and she seems ever so pleasant!

Sweets for the Sweet....didn't know how this would turn out. The fabric is from a skirt that would definitely need a slip underneath! Blue glass....love it!

Well, the PINCUSHION FASHION SHOW is done! Have many more, but not enough time. I want to put these in my etsy shop. Do have some of my Angel Song Ornament Angels in the shop along with a Journal. Please e-mail me if anyone is interested in anything shown here as I do not know if my intentions will get done....you know how it is! Blessings! Remember, God loves you so much....He sent His Son and would have done it just for YOU if YOU were the only one! Busy with work, singing, teaching and enjoying the fellowship at one of our local nursing homes.....planning a craft for next Monday that we can hang on all of the doors.....open to any ideas....yes, yes, yes!!! Our Thanksgivings are spent helping at the local Senior Citizens Center where we serve a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day so everyone has someone to share with.

We are greatly blessed beyond measure!

I love books! And over the years, I have created various forms of bookmarks. Recently, I created these or a gal who needed a lot to share as gifts. Here are some of them....

And then I packaged them in envelopes folded from magazine pages...all that will need to be done is to put the "to" and the "from" names. What will be fun is matching the bookmarks to the person!

It suddenly occurred to me that I am not going to live long enough to see all my dreams come true in this life. Oddly enough, it doesn’t bother me. I’ve already had more than my share of life’s sweets, and I take pleasure in seeing others accomplish what I cannot.

I always wanted to have a fix-it shop. My brother Tom in Kalamazoo, Michigan, fixes power tools for surgeons. I enjoy hearing about his work. “I would love to make a commercial,” I say to myself, every time I see a humorous one on TV. My brother Mark in Tampa, Florida, makes commercials for a living. I love to work with wood, but have no time for it. My brother Bob in Lowell, Indiana, designs and builds fine furniture, and has a waiting list of orders. My sister Linda Joy is the single, free spirit that appeals to my restless bones and gypsy heart. And my most persistent dream is to live on a small farm, like the one on which my sister Gloria lives near South Bend, Indiana. Perhaps my daughters will write the great American novel that I won’t, and maybe my grandchildren will travel to Australia, where I would like to go.

Increasingly, I find more joy in helping others reach their dreams than I do in having my own dreams come true. When one of my students says, “I would like to become a teacher,” something comes alive in me, because I train teachers for a living. My dream is to fulfill his dream. I have a friend who told me once that “some people are good at saying prayers. Others are good at answering prayers.” It’s the same with dreams, I think. All of us will leave this earth with an unfinished canvas, but no matter. If I can contribute a few strokes of the brush to the masterpiece, then my life has been worthwhile."

These heating grates came from a house built in 1908. They all sold except for my Elvis Presley tribute grate! Have this one at the store now!

My Fun Rings and button/bead bracelets were a hit! Gals even were trying on the rings and saying how "fun" this is...thus, I said why they are called "fun" rings!

Last year, I made another picture holder with vintage coat buttons. Again, I put one together and someone took it home! There goes some more of those one of a kind buttons!!!

The Angel Song ornaments ended up as a great display! Sold some of those and put them in the store now. I was so thrilled about these and if you want to read a great book, read Angel Song by Sheila Walsh.

These were my glitter shakers with little inspiring words or initials on them. One of those eye candy things, I guess!

I don't know if I sold any of my earrings at the show...have sold them at the store. For the show I punched holes in the cards so I could hang them. Had many comments on how clever the display was with the old decks of cards.

Put some of my cameo compacts in the show along. I tell people these are original photographs. Always reminding people that these ARE one of a kind creations!

Ah, my pincushions! Above is a planter that is a violin. Below are more made fromplanters. This was so enjoyable. I really like all the different kind of planters that are made. Do not have as good luck with the "plants" part as far as keeping them alive. Hey, one does not

have to water these!!!

Sugar bowls...enjoy without all the calories!!!

Memory wire bracelets, too. This time I printed up contact cards....hopefully that will generate more interest for the future!

My Forever Flowers made from scarves and a picture I put together with a little guy I thought looked like a "Ralph".

My Jelly Roll Scarves that I crocheted and put a vintage button on each. You can position them anyway you want and do not have to deal with the long tails from regular scarves. Main purpose is to keep the neck warm and you can wear them with jackets and regular shirts.

My grates were a great seller!

My journals made from decoupaging photos from a coffee table National Geographic book onto composition notebooks. Gone With the Wind....a great book and movie! Of course, the book was way better! Used a metal pumpkin to hold more button magnets!

I was very pleased how things went on Saturday!! Here are a few pictures for a quick overview. Will put more detailed ones on soon. Still recovering and now having to put what is left in at the store. Always excited for the show and always excited when it is over....what's up with that! Just like the water flowing here....well, it reminds me (this picture) of how I am feeling. Excited and waterfalls are exciting. The water, well, just like my excitement....there is no way to contain it and it just keeps flowing out of me. The plants are green, the flowers are blooming....LIFE! There will be lots of LIFE tomorrow as hundreds and hundreds of men and women will be perusing by. The rocks...obstacles may get in the way. Praying for smooth travel, transport of stuff and setting up and tearing down. And really...BELIEVING it will all just flow and go well! Yes, that is what I will be believing!!! I plan to take lots of pictures and will share them with you all.

Homecoming Parade in Redfield...Pheasant Season coming, too!

October 1st was Homecoming. No, we didn't win the football game, darn! It was great fun though. We love the parade. My husband and I scramble with the best of them for the candy....then we don't have to buy more for Halloween! This year, one of the banks threw t-shirts, another group threw measuring tapes, then we have those running for office and then if we are lucky, some throw candy bars!!! We are easily entertained here!!!

This fancy lady is Bobbi and she and her husband (the other person in purple to Bobbi's right, Jeremy) run our Anytime Fitness here in Redfield. I asked her to give me a pose. Isn't she great!!! Love the boots!!!

Always have fun making these bracelets as I mostly use necklaces that were made a long while ago that women will not just wear....may stick them in a drawer, drape them over something....mostly have them tucked away in a jewelry box. WELL, they make great bracelets and the possibilities are endless!! Fun...fun....fun!!! And easy to wear!!

Button Bead Bracelets!!! Craft show just around the corner!!!

My inventory was low with the button/bead bracelets! They went over so well last year at the craft show in Faulkton, South Dakota. I won't be bringing as many and will have to make more after the show for the store. I ran out of glass beads in the black, bronze and white. Can you imagine actually running out of beads! So, having fun and looking forward to the show and sharing with Peggy and am so thankful for my husband helping me. I will take pictures at the show and then I will be able to show you the doors turned into corner shelves. They have turned out fabulous and with the fall colors, OH MY!!!

Having a great day!!! Christian Women's met today. My manager at the antique store share about decorating with antiques. Joan did a great job! What great fun and wonderful fellowship and a good meal and coffee to boot!!! Blessings....debbie

Hello!!!!

Well, I have created more and need to get pictures of all that. I took a great leap this last week and gave my notice at one of my jobs. It was a job I loved but was pulling too much out of me emotionally and physically. I am fortunate that Joe works full-time and we have medical through him. I know that many are not that fortunate and have to both work full-time. It was a very hard decision as I, like many was getting much of my self worth from bringing home a decent paycheck every 2 weeks. I was having no time to create, everything rushed and trying to squeeze this and that in and not meeting the needs of my family and the house and other involvements in the community.

Hope this finds everyone having a great day. Our own cat (this isn't a picture of him) was lost for over a week. Eventually found him in a nearby garage trapped inside and was Oscar so glad to see me and I was glad more for Joe to see Oscar. Joe is more the cat lover.

The leaves are falling, changing, blowing....it is beautiful! Good day.....debbie

Brown flowers! Well, these are all scarves I bought at a Flea Market in Watertown, South Dakota. I have had so much fun doing this...don't know if it has ever been done. It is a literal one of those that I woke up to the idea while in bed. I feel it is another "God Inspired" moment. You can use these on your shirts, jackets, sweaters, jeans and even hats or to even embellish a scarf alread wrapped around your neck and these pins can anchor it so nicely. I was going to put pin backs on them, but thought these seemed more like corsages....what do you think? I think the brown is quite pretty!

Oh, how beautiful all the colors are. These took more time than I anticipated as there is some sewing involved so the scarves stay in their flower shapes. The leaves are sewed into the flower and then felt is covering that. I put beads in with the corsage pins to match the flowers.

This one is my favorite and my friend Wanda wants this one, especially because of the button. Yes, this is a button. Isn't it gorgeous!

Some more. I love the poke-a-dot one at the bottom right! Another favorite is the pink one at the bottom left....it just has a wispy look to it! Well, hope you enjoyed these. Trying to finish up projects for the craft show next month. My friend Peggy keeps counting down for me....oh, I hope I have enough time to get all that is in my head to do!!! Blessings, debbie

We are getting so much done!!! Can't wait to show you all what I have been up to in getting ready for the craft show. I hope Peggy will post pictures soon, too (hint, hint)....I know I plan to as soon as we get our new modem. In the words of Winnie the Pooh, "Oh, bother!" Yes, it has been a pain and yet, I am amazed at what comes to mind when I find a picture to use on this computer!!! Just am so excited at all I am getting done and all the ideas that the Lord is blessing me with. Yes, I am creating in my mind and losing sleep....October 16th can't come soon enough as far as sleeping goes, but we WILL get through it!!!

Internet still not working at home....so I grab a photo available here on the library computer. Don't know how to download from internet sites....if anyone could help and explain how to do that in "simple" terms, I would appreciate it. As for now, I will just have to make do with Tommy the Turtle here....

Am so excited and feeling as comfortable in my craft room these days as Tommy here probably feels in the ocean. I have gotten so many things done for the craft fair next month. My friend Peggy and I are trying to stay focused here and GET THINGS DONE!!! I just finished working almost 12 hours yesterday making pincushions and doing this in a way as far as repurposing items such as planters, cups, metal shoe forms, etc. It has been fun! I will take some pictures and put them on here as soon as I can.

With the fun also comes sad times as I helped and attended a funeral today for a dear friend in our church. Al was 80 years young and knew where his eternal home was which does bring some peace in the midst of sadness. As I layed awake this morning thinking about the day, the Lord gave me another craft idea....angels. Angels made from the teardrop crystals of a glass chandelier that I have had for sale for a couple of years at the store. A beautiful chandelier and I decided to take it home and use the glass teardrops for something. Well, this morning, forming in my mind was music from the old hymns shining with glitter from behind those teardrops and making angels....it is fitting today to make those angels and remember the blessing that Al was here on earth to so many.

Well, only have 30 minutes at the library....sure do miss the internet at home. My hubby and I talked about doing away with the internet, but (after a night's sleep on it) I really thought we should continue with it and get our modem fixed.....just keep our priorities right. God's Word first to start the day and we can handle anything the day brings! Don't you agree

Read this in the devotionals for Women of Faith. I struggle with this very thing every day. I love creating yet it doesn't pay the bills. My wonderful husband takes care of that. My two part-time jobs wouldn't handle everything. What I create and sell, well, there are good months and not so good months and now preparing for a major craft show next month....and is it all in vain in the big scheme of things? No, but it does wear on me....not pulling my weight, not working full-time even though "full-time" is really a figure of speech in the large picture (a women's work is NEVER done)....for she sees things that always need to be done, down to the tiniest speck on the carpet!!! HAVE been busy in so many other areas....it is often a fight within to get upstairs into my craft room. There are other places I want to be, too, like at the weekly sing along and devotional at one of our nursing homes, maybe helping with bingo, painting nails, visiting someone, reading to the little ones at the library....always calling my name and I love it....but the balancing act is SO HARD. That struggling catepillar turning into a butterfly!!! I'm 47! I should be that beautiful butterfly by now, but most times, I feel as though I am still struggling out of the cocoon! Anita Renfroe from Women of Faith shares about all of this in a much more eloquent way than I can say.....

Feeling like Fall!!!

It's feeling a lot like Fall around here!!! We all are so excited as we have had some crazy hot and humid summer. Yes, this has been prime for growing. My friend Peggy....her tomatoes have been lovin' the hot humid weather and she is having a great harvest with the tomatoes and oh, to see her sunflowers....they are huge!!!

I have been super busy with the two jobs. Trying to wind down and get busy with the craft fair in October. Peggy from Prairie Pastimes blog and I are going to have booths next to each other! We are so excited! I just need to get focused and busy!!!!

I have been exploring blogs and having fun. My computer is down at home so am at the library. We have a wonderful library here in our small town. Our is one of the Carnegie libraries and had an add on in the last couple of years....something we are all enjoying.

Treated myself today and found some great items to alter and have fun with and had the leftovers of a fancy iced coffee drink to boot at Simply Charming here in Redfield. Don't do the fancy drinks very often....just not in the budget. Have curbed my coffee and newspaper everyday as I am not sponsoring a child through World Vision and figure that money can be better spent supporting Festers, a 13 years old boy from Zambia. My son Isaac, well he wanted a brother as he is the only one home yet and will be the only one for the next 5 years....this is the best I could do!!!

Well, I want to get some things done and hope to be posting some creations soon. Have a fabulous day!!!! debbie

Women of Faith Conference in Omaha!!! Nothing like being there!!!

You just never know how your days will change.....you think you have your schedule all figured out!! I was singing recently for a Sunday service at a church in our community and was approached afterwards about the Women of Faith conference coming up. Patrice asked me if I had considered going. Yes, I had, but the cost is what discouraged me. Well, someone wants to sponsor someone anonymously ad would you like to go......oh, my goodness!!!

It was a WONDERFUL time as, of course, I fit it into my schedule! If any of you ladies have never been to one....oh, there is nothing like being there. Being there in the audience with over 6,000 women praising the Lord, moving to the groove REALLY! and hearing women and there was a man speaker share with us honestly about so many things....the insight! What I appreciated the most was the honesty and being encouraged and just letting it out for all to see that WE JUST DON'T HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER and IT'S OK! We are a work in progress by a loving Father who loves us as we are and sees us in a totally different way than we see ourselves.

I just want to share a few quotes and if you would like me to send you a copy of my notes, I would love to send them to you. I wrote it out so that even though you may not have been there, that you would understand. It prints out to 15 pages and I hope that it will bless you, encourage you and help you in your day to day walk with the Lord, your family, in your job, in your creativity!!! This was just a handful of beads and a brooch that my manager at the antique store asked me to fix. It was her mother's. I added the old gold metal beads and repositioned the brooch and used all the original hardware. I think it turned out quite nice. We were thinking to make a bracelet out of the beads and turn the brooch into a pin brooch separately....but as I was looking at it and trying to rework things, it just seemed that it needed to be a necklace once again!!!

I don't know if I need to apologize for the blog before this. It is still a hurting time for me and our whole congregation and for people in this small town of ours about our pastor's wife, Marly. We still are in shock and as we work through it "life does indeed go on". There was a funeral to do for another member of our church, work still beckons, others have needs that arise and we continue to take one breath in and exhale one breath out......thank you....

The flower pin just needed to be fixed. Isn't it gorgeous!!!

True Joy.....what really matters.....

I am at the library so this will come without pictures....

Just need to share this about joy because sometimes, even doing crafts doesn't give me all that I need. I am in a bit of a shock as I have just learned that our pastor's wife, Marly just lost her baby....she was due this coming Saturday. We were just laughing after church yesterday as we were preparing for a Ladies' Retreat next month about her having this baby while family members come in a few days.....having her jump on a trampoline or something! We all had already fallen in love with "Charlie" and were looking forward to meeting him soooon. It is times like this.....nothing that I thought meant so much really means anything and I read this about joy in my upcoming Sunday School lesson this morning and I can only hold onto what I know is true at this time and certainly not what I feel. It shows me once again that faith is not a feeling, it is knowing the Truth and one cannot know the Truth unless they are in the Word daily and building a personal relationship with the One who creates us.....One who so much wants to be a part of our lives. So, I share this on joy even though I don't feel much joy at this moment....

Journals and Fun Rings!!!

It is LATE!!! Just came home about an hour ago from my Bible college reunion! I have never been to any of my high school reunions....our class was over 300! The 10 year reunion, I was in England, the 20th, I was in California....probably be here in Redfield for my 30th. I worked so much in high school except for a semester playing tennis, I only really knew a few people BUT, I didn't want to miss my college reunion! It was our first that Dakota Bible College has ever had. The college itself closed her doors in 1985. It has been operating since the 1940's, so there were many there that I didn't know. But, those that attended in the 80's!!! Oh, how enjoyable....I will post pictures on my Devotionally Yours blog of me singing with my old traveling music group, Feed Company....."Feed My Sheep", the Lord asks of all of us!

Here are some of the journals I have been working on....just something simple and fun! Pictures are from a National Geographic Book, a hardback coffee table book. I really like journals and keep them myself.....have notebooks full of memories, notes, devotions over the years....my trials, joys and thoughts!!! Made some more Fun Rings....sold out of the ones I made and had a great time making more. Definitely what one calls, Eye Candy.....don't you think???!!!

Just had a great day, starting Monday evening. Spent lots of time up in my craft room getting so much done that needed to get done!!!! BUT, I will go backwards, 'cause that is how these pictures are.....need to think about the order when I upload!!!

A wonderful gal came into the shop today...twice! She first came in to check on something as she rents space there and saw that I was working with typewriter keys and making charms...didn't get a picture of that BUT then she came in again with this beauty! She asked me if I wanted to buy it and, of course, I said yes, how much? Ten dollars, she said. I just happened to have ten dollars in my pocket as a lady came in that I am fixing some jewelry for before her trip to Italy and she saw the earrings I am making and bought some on the spot and so there, ten dollars! And to think later, this would come in and the asking price is ten dollars!!! More keys to play with and more little parts to think of things to do with!

Put some paperweights together last night. Have all these wonderful cards from long ago and they look so fabulous under glass! This round one is a magnifying one, but I put the design right under the glass instead of at the bottom.

I put five together and I hope they find a good home!

Here are my earrings....67 of them, sold 2 already! They were so fun and then to display them on these old card decks. Just gotta get them priced now and into the store for tomorrow! All that I am making for the antique store will find its way to the craft fair in October, opening day of pheasant season. It has a great turn out and it is a time to meet lots of great people!!!

Oh, and I finished my 2 jars for the swap. I am late getting them out and I appreciate Renee and Suzie's patience.

I love feeling like I have accomplished something! I try and start my day out with devotions. We are studying Elijah this next week in Sunday School. He is one of my favorite Bible characters as he was one to experience great highs and victories and then to also experience great lows and despair and God still used him to accomplish great things. We all have our highs and lows in life. My prayer for myself is that I can accomplish great things for Him....that He will be praised in all that I do. Devotion to Him, a great way to start the day and then on to creating!!!

The days certainly got away from me!!! Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! I was asked to sing on Sunday, so I sang Lee Greenwood's song, God Bless the USA. I change some of the words....."If tomorrow all the things were gone, I'd worked for all my life, and I had to start again with just my family and my friends. I'd thank the Lord Above, to be living here today...." In everything, I want to give God the glory, not my "lucky stars".

Worked through the whole holiday weekend. It was nice to see people from out of town come into the antique store. Finished up some cards (pictures from the Graphics Fairy, I believe), want to get some more done and am also getting ready to work on charms for bracelets and necklaces and earrings....the sorting begins!!! BUT, the immediate situation is drying things out in the basement after a very hard rain with lots and lots of wind!!! Have a truck load of branches from all our trees to take to the dump. Still lots to pick up and have the fans going in the basement. Just one side of the house, water comes in when the eaves get too full. I was out there last night in my husband's camo rain gear trying to rig up something to get the water away from the house....it was a useless situation with the hard rain at the time. And yet, I thank God for shelter and that we are all dry! Hope you all have a great day and find lots to be thankful for!!! blessings, debbie

Oh, the "tremor" of it all....to be letting go of buttons at such a magnitude! I am going to be ok, yes, I know I will be. My button shelf is much easier to handle and I am not letting go of my most precious ones here, but still, they are buttons and I have such a love for buttons!!! YES!
These babies get a little heavy! Placed several jars in a laundry basket to take to the antique store and couldn't lift it....had to pace myself and take a few out! The large white one in the back sold yesterday! I love seeing white buttons together....never can really understand all the different shades of white until you put together white buttons in one place! Don't you think!

Amazing what one can do with twine, jars, buttons, upholstery fabric samples and a paper bag!!!

I have been working in my craft room....doing some creating, doing some cleaning and reorganizing. The cleaning and reorganizing is what I need to do most as it helps me to feel better about being up there in what is suppose to be my "haven." Interestingly enough, the word "haven" is just one letter short of making it "heaven".....so that "e" for me stands for "everything" that I need to tend to, whether it is figuring out what I just won't get done in this lifetime and get rid of it, sell it, donate it.....whatever I need to do to make my haven more like my small place of heaven. Am I getting anyone's attention on this!! I know it is getting mine!!!

Someone loves to collect old gas station signs, for sure!!! In this little town of Bristol is also an antique store that is in an old elementary school. It isn't a little school and if you are EVER in the area, this would be your one stop shopping place! Didn't capture pictures of the shop, but a few things in it.....another way of looking at "signs" of the times, indeed!!!

Took our dog for a walk....started sprinkling and hasn't stopped. Been like this off and on for far too long. Ended up giving Bev a bath because we walked the country roads and boy, was she muddy! Mickey here is using an umbrella, too!!! Found this awhile back.....

The weather has gotten cooler because of the rain....knocked out the humidity, so can't complain there! Little Red Riding Hood has it all figured out!!!

Yep, that is us!!!! This is on the door of the gas station in Crandall, South Dakota.....however before we got there as this is out in the middle of nowhere land.....a tire had to point us in the right direction!!! No kidding!!!

Well, I also took pictures of the outhouse for this gas station, but didn't put it here for now. I think a book on just pictures of outhouses would be a cool book.....well, maybe not to some of you, but I am old enough to say that I had to use one when visiting my grandparents in Avon, South Dakota. There were two places to sit, hanging toilet paper and reading material! I had my fear like any young person at the time that I would fall in or spiders would get me!

I would like to do that or when I get my creative juices flowing or feature more of what I have already made that I can do a swap or be featured on someone else's blog....oh, what a great thing that would be!

Excitement around here with baseball, company and a car accident....with the latter, everyone is ok and that is what counts! Staying busy at the antique store and wonderful people buying my jewelry and birdfeeders and such....just makes my day when people appreciate my creations! Well, I sure appreciate all the ones I see on the blogs!!!

I don't know who painted this sign, but I love it!!! This is the beginning of our tour of "Frog Land", so to speak. Another time, I will take you to Oz, the town we visited first on our day trip to small towns. I was just anxious to show you this town and all the frogs!!!

Peonies....I think "deep pink"!

The pictures do not really capture the deep of the pink!!! This is one of the reasons to love this time of year and try and not focus on all the mosquitoe bites that I have!!! I may be crazy, but I would take snow over mosquitoes any day!!! I know that is crazy!

Just wanted to say thanks publicly to Karen Valentine who updated my blog for me....couldn't figure out how to make my header fit and she created the great "buttons" for me.....it is just so cool and she did a great job and is very reasonable. When I can afford further upgrades, I know who to contact. Her blog is: valentinedesign.blogspot.com. ALSO!!! She is featured in the WHERE WOMEN CREATE, the most recent issue....so, you all should look at that. What a beautiful place she has created to work and create!!!

Well, speaking of creating....I know it is Memorial Day. All is quiet on the homefront as Joe is sleeping and will be doing another 12 hour shift tonight. I have taken some time off....hopefully....unless I get called in. And, I hope I get some stuff done! My goodness. The days just get away from me.

Isaac and I did do something fun yesterday. Went to Aberdeen and enjoyed the Art and Bicycle Spectacle.....enjoyed the different art doings, music and free food....can't, go wrong when there is free food. Dan the owner of the Red Rooster Coffee Shop put out a great spread and didn't know he is quite a performer himself. Inside the shop, he played guitar and sang a few Neil Diamond songs....even upon request he sang, Sweet Caroline!

So, as for the pictures here.....colorful, wouldn't you say!!! Well, Isaac and I had a "colorful" day yesterday. It was wonderful for me to see him participate in different art projects. Took pictures with my cellphone, but do not know how to send them to the internet.

Just Being Weird...BUT I like this picture!

Over 4 years ago now, I picked up this picture down in Arizona, north of Phoenix. I found it in a thrift store. This was all during the time my husband Mark and I were in the area to have Mark receive a new type of therapy for his kidney cancer....called tomotherapy, a more precise radiation of tumors. We were staying in a beautiful little town north of Phoenix in the foothills called Carefree. I had brought this into the antique store to sell, but decided to take it back home. I don't know if it is just the picture itself or knowing that I had bought it during a time that Mark was still alive....I just don't know. As I was taking pictures, and I wish I had taken one of the black framing as it is simple but beautiful....anyway, it is amazing the different coloring and how it seems to change this dog. I have shown it to people and they also think it looks like a dalmatian, but the wording or name makes me think it is suppose to be one of those "racing" greyhounds. Either way....I like the picture and decided I wasn't ready to part with it. Someone lovingly drew it in chalk and I think did an amazing job......just being weird!

Yes, that is what I am all about....thinking outside of the box, well, has anyone asked themselves, hey, what I can do with THAT box!!!! So, would like to share with you all out there in blogland some of what I repurpose. And just want to thank Andrea from Vintage Bella Studio for doing the "Show what you create Blog party". I had fun sharing and reading everyone else's blogs that shared!!! Boosted my confidence! How about yours?

My other birdfeeder chandelier! I love the blue! Could have painted the glass, but just couldn't do it! I thought the design was so pretty!

You could make this a birdbath chandelier, too!

Hello! This is a tree feeder for the birds. Great way to use all those sconces. This one already has a friend-bird to visit with!

Cup and saucer birdfeeders, personalized with charms on the spoons. There are no two alike!!! That is what I enjoy telling people.....you will never find another one anywhere else just like this one!!!!

Rain gauges, too!!! 'Course my late husband, Mark would say this isn't an accurate gauge. I space the R-A-I-N letters an inch apart, but he said the opening is too large. Well, "Honey," I said, "We really don't care how accurate they are (most of us unless living on a farm, I guess) but just that they are cute!!!!"

Larger birdbaths! My birds loves these! I shared in another post my birdbath from an old gumball machine stand! The birds do play! It is a delight to see!

Butterfly charm....another way to use beads, buttons and/or charms.

I do provide some birdseed to get you started!!!!

One can mix and match the cups and saucers! This is what is fun!!! Isn't this a beautiful saucer!!!

We have a lot of farmers and ranchers around here! Just waiting for the "horse-minded" one to pick this one up!!!

We really don't need anymore "rain" around here! Thankfully the wind should dry things out so the farmers can get more done in the fields!!!

I like to put a fancy piece on my rain gauges.....did I say "fancy", yes I said "fancy"!!!

Still figuring out how to take those close-up shots!!! You can't see it very well, but this has a beautiful filligree cap!

Creating.......haven't had time with 2 jobs to get any creating done! Soooo, hope it is ok to share with you some repurposing that I have done! Bracelets from buttons and beads!!

A card holder embellished with coat buttons, one is a furry one.....it was so hard to offer this for sale at the craft show I was in....and it sold to a gal that was just in awe of it....so, that was worth it, for sure!

A fan painted red with "MY FANS" with Scrabble letters and old class photos! One gal recently wanted to just buy two of the clothespins with the letters on them....told her it went with the fan!

Wire candle chanelier turned into a birdfeeder complete with bird friends!!!

Buttons, who's got the buttons!! I have tons, well, maybe not tons, but I do have jars and jars and drawers full....made these button bookmarks with little encouraging words on the leaves. Made them to help us all get through the long winter we had here in the Dakotas!!!

Well, I have to get to my other job! It would be quite a compliment to get some comments here. You all are so amazing! I will look at the list of other blogs this weekend. Blessings, debbie

"Lilacs anyone"????

Late afternoon and my husband and I are trying to put on a new screen door.....and I think I have him talked into a new door also! We purchased the screen door awhile ago and I did remind him that we would have purchased a new door also, but they didn't have the right size of the one we wanted. Presently, he was saying that we should just paint this one.....well, there is plastic molding to be removed as it is broken and then there would be holes to fill and trying to match the paint....just more work than getting a new door!!! Taking a break and wanting to share with you the lilacs in our yard. Every year, I say that I am going to take pictures of the beautiful lilacs....enjoy them this way as my sense of smell isn't very good. I truly believe it is because of blogging that I take the time to take pictures these days!!! And hence, have taken pictures to share with you of our lilacs in their glory of various colors!!! I just wish their blooms lasted longer....it is another amazing part of life and creation, so, how when looking at these little blooms that make up the whole, can we not believe in a divine Creator!!!
